How much electricity does a ceiling fan use?
Short answer: A normal ceiling fan uses 70–80 watts at full speed, so running 10 hours a day it uses about 0.75 units per day or 22–24 kWh per month. A BLDC fan uses 28–35 watts, about 9–10 kWh per month for the same use.

Tip: A regulator at low speed reduces fan watts; old resistive regulators waste some energy as heat.
Using this calculator outside India? Outside India? Pick your currency at the top of the page and enter the per-kWh rate printed on your bill. Typical residential averages: USA 18.3¢/kWh (EIA, July 2026; California 33.6¢, Texas 15.9¢), UK about £0.25/kWh, Germany about €0.38/kWh, UAE about AED 0.23–0.38/kWh, Canada about C$0.13–0.20/kWh and Australia about A$0.30–0.35/kWh. The kWh result is the same in every country; only the cost changes.

Use the result to decide whether your current fan usage is worth upgrading. The tool shows consumption, monthly cost, and realistic BLDC payback only when an upgrade makes sense.
This is a preliminary planning estimate. For certified audits, use site measurement and nameplate readings.
FAQ
How many units does a fan consume in 24 hours?
A 75 W ceiling fan running 24 hours uses 1.8 units (kWh). A 30 W BLDC fan uses about 0.72 units in 24 hours.
Why did BLDC saving become zero earlier?
That was a logic bug. Saving must compare current selected fan wattage with BLDC wattage, not fixed 60W with itself.
Is 60W exact for every fan?
No. It is a practical default. Nameplate wattage gives more accurate result.
When to upgrade fans
If fans run more than 8 hours per day, BLDC upgrade usually becomes more interesting. If usage is low, maintenance and runtime control may be enough.
Accuracy note
The result is a planning estimate. Use nameplate wattage, measured runtime and current tariff for professional-level accuracy.
